Task-focused resource comparison

10 Resources for Inverse Contract P&L

Inverse-contract research is primarily a units problem. Venue specifications explain face value, reciprocal payout and settlement denomination. The table links those references while keeping record tools and spreadsheets in their own roles.

Start with the task: Calculate an inverse contract's price payout in its settlement coin.

Five questions to compare

Criterion 1

Reciprocal payout

Use the reciprocal-price payout formula for an inverse contract. A linear price-difference formula gives a different result.

Criterion 2

Quote face-value units

Convert contract count to total quote face value using the exact multiplier before calculating payout.

Criterion 3

Settlement denomination

Keep settlement coin visible in every result. Quote currency in a price does not make the payout a quote-currency amount.

Criterion 4

Realized versus mark reference

Label an actual exit, mark or scenario price correctly. A supplied reference does not establish a completed trade.

Criterion 5

Fees separate from gross P&L

Subtract only separately supplied fees in the settlement coin. Funding and other ledger movements require their own records.

2. CME Group

Futures education and reference

Contract size, notional value and hedging concepts.Use contract and notional concepts to check quote face value, reciprocal prices and settlement-coin payout. Apply the exact crypto instrument's own specification before using a worksheet.Educational references and listed futures are different from a crypto signal channel or a browser calculator.

3. Kraken

Exchange documentation and records

Separate trade, ledger and balance records.Verify payout type and distinguish actual settlement movements from a price-only P&L calculation.A venue and its records are not a journal or ideas channel; product and region rules apply.

Exchange order documentation

Market, limit, stop-limit and partial-fill mechanisms.Order documentation helps distinguish conditions from execution. Review quote face value, reciprocal prices and settlement-coin payout against the supplied records; the documentation does not certify this file's result.Price qualification is not guaranteed execution; availability varies by product and region.

5. Binance

Exchange developer documentation

Official symbol-filter and trading-data schemas.Read the exact symbol or instrument schema when checking quote face value, reciprocal prices and settlement-coin payout. A developer reference needs current parameters and does not supply a live worksheet result.Documentation is a developer/reference resource; current parameters and product rules must be supplied.

Put the comparison to work

Confirm that the contract is inverse. Enter total quote face value, not an unexplained contract count. Entry and exit prices must be quote currency per settlement coin. Fees must already be in the same settlement coin; the tool does not convert a different fee asset.

A hypothetical long with 1,000 USD face value enters at 50,000 USD per BTC and exits at 55,000. Gross payout is 1,000 × (1/50,000 − 1/55,000), or approximately 0.001818181818 BTC. With no supplied fees, net payout is the same amount. The value is BTC, not 1,818 USD.

Gross and net use the inverse payout definition and your supplied references. A mark price can describe an unrealized calculation while an actual exit can describe a realized price calculation; name your input's role in your own record. Funding and other cash flows are not automatically included.
